Parks and Recreation
The Ramona Municipal Water District was authorized to provide park and recreation services in May 1975. The District owns a 166-acre park in conjunction with its well fields. Since 1994, the District has contracted with a nonprofit public benefit organization called Ramona Parks and Recreation Association (RPRA), to operate and manage the park. However, the District’s lease with RPRA expired on June 30, 2023 and the District has begun operating and managing the park directly. In order to complete this transition, the Board of Directors approved two items at the April 11, 2023 board meeting (Items F.4. & F.5.)
- Hiring a Parks and Facility Administrator to administer Wellfield Park and the Ramona Community Center
- Form a Parks and Recreation Community Advisory Committee, which will advise the District on its parks and recreation services (see new information below).
Park Staffing News
We are excited to welcome Darcy LaHaye as the new Parks and Facilities Administrator. She started working on March 4, 2024 and has experience working at Valley Center Parks and Recreation District as their General Manager and at San Diego County in the Department of Parks and Recreation. She has already proved to be an asset in her first month as an experienced park manager and her knowledge of County processes.
Community Advisory Committee
The Parks and Recreation Community Advisory Committee (CAC) was established following a public outreach and application process conducted by the District in 2023. Interested community members were invited to submit interest forms, which were reviewed by a Board‑appointed Parks and Recreation Ad Hoc Committee. Recommended members were appointed by the RMWD Board of Directors.
In 2025, the Board adopted revisions to the CAC policy that refined the committee’s structure and operations. Under the updated policy, the CAC consists of nine Board‑appointed members, including at‑large community representatives and park user representatives, and provides advisory input to the District on parks and recreation services.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday bi-monthly at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramona Community Center.
The agenda is posted at least 72 hours prior to the meeting and can be viewed here.
